{C}{O}{M}{B} – Mosquito ft. Tony Morris

Closer to a short story read aloud than a pop song, “Mosquito” hands the lead to Tony Morris, the Tom Waits kind of voice Jim Dixon had in mind when he sent over the instrumental. Morris narrates a breakup letter, and the twist comes from a tennis commentary he once caught: the one being dumped takes in every line of the takedown, half admires how thoroughly it was done, and simply moves on. Underneath, the Margate duo build their sound from whatever’s in reach, pieces of wood and metal bowls among it, and Dixon adds harmonies around Morris’s delivery. Second release on Brace Yourself Records after Future Days (W31).
